Conroe 2011 Thanksgiving
We have just completed the first Thanksgiving away from both of our parents and let me tell you it is not all it is cracked up to be. The good thing is we did meet some wonderful friends whom I hope we will be seeing a lot of in the future.
We had some of the best prime rib I think I have ever had, in addition to the turkey with expected trimmings. And I am not sure whose recipe that was for the sweet potato salad, but I was thinking about just rubbing that in my chest it was so good. Good food, good wine, and I hope to be good friends - these are the things that make thanksgiving worth all the time and effort.
We of course called back home for the each of us to see what the crews were up to, and besides being off to the four winds themselves they were doing fine. Everyone to some extent I am sure is still remembering the days of old when everyone was alive and the closeness and family feelings were tighter. It is amazing how we seem to drift apart as we get older and wish things were like they used to be.
Now, Lolly has to work on Thanksgiving Day evening for a few hours, and Marcus gets to work some the next day. Even most of our friends had hours to pull the same day or the day after. Seriously, have we become a society so greedy that we cannot afford the people who help sustain the industries at large to be with their families for an extended period without the rule of the almighty dollar (or the lack thereof) to dangle over us like the Sword of Damocles?
Anyway, we are missing our families, loving our friends, and feeling very fortunate to have a home to come back to so we can be quiet with the kitty and just sit down and write a blog in peace.
